6 Ways To Escape Burnout

Have you noticed that when you reach burnout you are never surprised? There's no epiphany of "so that's why I feel like crawling in bed and sleeping through winter." You are stretched to the max at work and at home and in reflection of the events, you don't know what you would have done differently.  That's what burnout does, you can't see clearly.

What if there was a plan to stop burnout out before it started to smolder? Dr. John-Henry Pfifferling has just that solution with 6 strategies for burnout prevention:

1. Take care of yourself. Get over the feeling that taking care of yourself is selfish; it's not. It is healthy.

2. Shift your perception from wanting to do everything for everyone else to doing things for you, because you deserve to do things you love.

3. Practice solitude. Every day invest 5 minutes being alone with absolutely no noise (no radio, no TV, and no kids).

4. Realize that your professional role is only part of who you are and strive for balance within all the roles you love to be.

5. Make appointments with yourself and for yourself -- and stick to them. It doesn't matter if the appointment you make with yourself is to watch Star Trek.

6. Love yourself unconditionally.
